What's In Your Closet? Volume 1, Issue 4

Many years ago I was sitting with my accountant pre-April 15th reviewing paperwork.  When he got to the file that I labeled as Donation, he said it was Marketing.  I said, "No, those were donations I made to organizations that I support."  He said, "That is marketing."  And so the discussion began.  I felt that these donations were coming from a place within me that wanted to help those who needed it.  I didn't want credit for it and just didn't see it as marketing. But as it turns out, it was.

The system is set-up to be a win-win for all involved.  Individuals and organizations get tax benefits for supporting non-profits' fundraising efforts; they receive visibility from their community, and the non-profit receives donations and volunteer support.

To maximize your success, you must create awareness about the specifics of your fundraising event and the reason why your group is raising funds.  And like any marketing objective, people aren't always ready to buy (or donate in this case) when you are talking with them.  So how are you going to keep your message top of mind?  How will you increase excitement about your cause, retain your supporters and generate new interest?
