NEWSLETTERS, The Perfect Promotion
Many years ago I was sitting with my accountant pre-April 15th reviewing paperwork. When he got to the file that I labeled as Donation, he said it was Marketing. I said, "No, those were donations I made to organizations that I support." He said, "That is
marketing." And so the discussion began. I felt that these donations were coming from a place within me that wanted to help those who needed it. I didn't want credit for it and just didn't see it as marketing. But as it turns out, it was. [...]

NEWSLETTERS, The Perfect Promotion
I am thrilled golf season has finally arrived. No, I am not a golfer. I just love spring time and all that it brings. The weather, the sounds of the birds, the flowers...and it also brings tradeshows, fundraising walks and golf tournaments. Just like successful golfers have strategies, so do successful marketers. [...]

Spring is my favorite time of year. It is a season represented by new beginnings, growth, and development. The birds are singing, animals emerge from hibernation, and we see growth in our gardens as the flowers burst into bloom. A feeling of hope and excitement returns, and people are ripe for change. I have noticed that as winter is coming to an end and spring is right at our fingertips, our clients - and I - become restless and ready to act. What changes does spring represent for you, your clients, and your business model? [...]

Whenever I go into a professional office - whether I am visiting a client, prospect, or colleague, or whether I am there for business or a social call - the one common element is that people LOVE to tell me all about their "Closet". I have seen beautiful closets; I have seen cubicles with makeshift doors; and everything in between. And I have to say - this part of my visit is one of my favorites because I learn so much so quickly. [...]

Tis the season!
That means so many things, doesn't it? To some it means festivity, family and food. To others it represents pressure and shopping. Certainly there is a religious and spiritual component. I have had some years where I couldn't wait for January so that the season would finally be over and other years when the season was wonderful. How about you? [...]

As my mother used to say: You plan-God laughs.
Imagine my excitement when I learned that an article we submitted to the Hartford Business Journal was going to be published. Then imagine my disappointment when it landed on people's desks while the power was out, schools were closed, people were stressed and just getting by - not worrying about how they are going to appropriately acknowledge and thank their clients, colleagues, and referral sources during the holiday season (which may I add is only 40 plus days away!) [...]

Philanthropy, NEWSLETTERS, Strategic Marketing
Several years ago I was in my accountant’s office doing taxes when he came to the page that I marked ‘Donations’.
He moved it to the Marketing column. I said “No, that was a donation.” He said, “No, that is marketing.”
It was at that moment that I realized that while our giving is 100% authentic, not only was my company involved in helping others in need, but it was also going to be an integral part of our marketing plan.So that brings me to our topic for this month’s newsletter. Is there a place for strategic philanthropy in your integrated marketing plan?

It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me. “Is that a dog you got back there?” he asked.
”It sure is,” I replied.
Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, “What'd he do?” [...]
